November Meeting Highlights

We had a nice showing for our November meeting. Here's a gallery of our show and tell.

This last photo was sent from the Headstart Group again .. the preschool children have been busy making crafts with our empty spools. Goes to show you that with a quilter, nothing goes to waste! 

The year has been a blur. It seems the Christmas party is sneaking up on us fast. Please join us for our annual party on Tuesday, December 17th .. we will have cookies and cider at 6:30 with a short business meeting, show and tell and lots of draws. Bring you holiday cheer, you r quilts to show and a friend ... and money! Lots of money. We have the best draws in town!

Spools

One of the directors of the Aboriginal Headstart program passed along more pictures to us of the children making use of our empty spool donations. Goes to show you that beauty can emerge from anything! 

Empty thread spools are a perfect painting tool for a toddler. They are very durable, easy to wash and the perfect size for small hands.

Retreat

I was a very poor blog photographer on the weekend! 

We had our annual fall 2-day retreat and I only managed to get 3 pictures out of it! Clearly, I had my head down and was quietly sewing away in the corner! 

A couple of gals joined us from one of our favourite quilt shops Road 17 North from Winkler to share their wares. I'm confident it was worth the trip. I will speak for myself and others to say that we crave fabric .. crave it. It's tough to have a quilting addiction and no store in town to feed us a fix!  Cheryl and Marianne were lovely and hope they join us again! I think there were around 20 or so for the weekend but some came and went ... like I said, I was a quiet mouse in the corner minding my own business!

Our supper was catered and delicious. We love not having to wash dishes. It was a grand weekend. If you missed out this time, please know we were thinking of you and hope you can attend in the spring.

September Already!

As I write this, there are 98 days left until Christmas. 98 days is not a long time for a quilter!!

I wasn't able to make the meeting myself last night and I thank Rae for filling in as photographer. Here's a sampling of our show and tell.

Mrs Ariko joined us as Lorna presented some comfort quilts for the Handi-Van ... if you remember last month, we made up a few lap quilts for seniors to enjoy a warm ride to a fro.

The fall retreat is coming up on October 4 & 5th. All members welcome to stay and sew, come for a visit or have dinner. Dinner on Friday night will be catered again ... yay, no dishes to wash! If you care to just come by for dinner, please add your name to the list and contact Phyl or Lorna. We hope to see you then!

Challenge

This is a blank slate! A beautiful tangerine coloured slate! 

What are you going to do with this material?

This is the fabric for our quilt show challenge ... you have one year to come up with a masterpiece!
Well .... a masterpiece with a few rules!

You must pay $10 to get this fabric (see Lynn for that)

You must make a 24 inch square mini quilt .... not 30 ", not 12" ... 24"!

It must be square. Not round, not cuckoo crazy ... square please.

You must sew it all yourself. All of it. No hiring a long arm quilter ... you can't farm out your binding.

You must make it all yourself (it will be great!)

You must not add any hangers to it .... they need to fit on the peg boards for the stage

You must have an open mind and good spirit to take part ... go out of your comfort zone, or stick with what you are comfortable with.

The tangerine must be used on the front. Use it anywhere but it has to be noticeable. Don't cheap out on just use an inch, now. Use it!
