July 2015 Meeting Highlights

We had 19 members at our evening meeting for July, first one I have missed in a long time!    I heard during the day the guild members worked on the Apple Core blocks and that they got a good start on that quilt.  Also the Snow Ball blocks were put together into a quilt top so I'm anxious to see that one too.    I was able to quilt the Black and White quilt, seen above and Phyl is stitching on the binding.  I also quilted the Fancy Fox quilt that will be used as a day raffle at our next quilt show in April.

The new comfort block is called Spring Tulips and was demonstrated by Sheri. The guild is supplying the stem and background fabric, members supply the leaf and tulip fabric.

All the dates for the meetings, UFO days and October Retreat can be found on the blogs sidebar.  The next UFO day is August 15.

Free Motion Class in August

I have offered to teach a Free Motion Class during the afternoon of August 18th which is the meeting day.  I'll be sending out an email with all the information and if you are interested in taking the class please email me so I know there is interest.  schwartzk@mynetset.ca
Please bring your sewing machine, darning foot, thread and fabric ( fat quarter size)  for making quilt sandwiches for practicing on.  Also a pencil and note book for drawing or even better as a small white erase board or 12"x 18" piece of Plexiglas with dry erase pen for sketching designs on top of quilts.
I'll be helping those interesting in learning how to pin basting the quilt sandwiches in the morning and will have scraps of batting for members to use.
The class will start at 1pm and we will get right into quilting background designs and then work on border designs.

Hope you are all enjoying these warm sunny days!

June 2015 Meeting Highlights

Time to catch up on the blog posts now that I'm back from holidays!   There were 36 members and 1 guest present for our June meeting.  During the day we pieced together two Christmas Raffle quilts using the Perfect 10 pattern.

Audrey completed the wall hanging for the PCH.

The program for the evening was a binding refresher by Audrey.  After that Kathy showed a method on how NOT to cut bias binding and then the proper method on how to cut bias binding strips.

There are still two spots available for the Swan River Retreat in September and there is still time to sigh up!

Highway 10 Designs has a new table runner and place mat pattern called Detour.  Here are a few samples.
