August 2014 Meeting Highlights

Our August meeting had 25 members and 2 guest.  We had a very productive day and finished piecing our second Good Tiding quilts for our Christmas party raffle!  The Good Tiding quilt pictured below is for our raffle at the Creighton Craft sale and it is now quilted!

Sheri presented Audrey with her Presidents block which were a Nine Patch that with the right color choices can look like flowers!  Looking forward to seeing this quilt put together and quilted for our next quilt show in two years, no pressure Audrey!  :)

Old Business

On August 16 we had 7 members participate in our Lug Nuts workshop.   3 members worked on there own quilts while the rest worked on the guild's quilt.    It was a fun day of sewing and ripping, then more sewing and ripping and once we got all the machines sewing a perfect quarter inch seam the real fun started!   As Lug Nuts blocks were being completed there were lots of happy quilters again!  Looking forward to seeing these finished in the next few month.  Here is a sneak peak at how the guild's quilt is coming along as well as a some of the other quilts being worked on.   Marg and Yvonne look like they are having fun creating those Lug Nuts!

New Business

Sheri introduced the new Round Robin Challenge.  Bring a completed block to the September meeting that is 10 to 13.5 inches square or rectangle.  The blocks will be passed around to members to complete a new step each month.  The challenge will run until February 2015.

Programming is in place for the next several months.  See Sheri if you have any more ideas.

A day will be booked for a workshop to make baby/children’s quilts for the Elks Christmas Cheer Fund.  Members can donate any children’s prints that can be cut into strips WOF.

Time for Show and Tell

It was a small Show and Tell this month but I have a feeling now the the weather is getting cooler we will have more to share next month!
Happy Quilting!

July Meeting Highlights

We had 25 members and 4 guest present for our July meeting.
During the day we were busy making our Christmas quilt that will be raffled at the Creighton Craft Sale in Nov.  We also make a cute table runner with the scraps that will be donated to the craft sales Draw table.

The quilt we made is called Good Tidings and the fabric collection is called Solstice by Kate Spain.

The quilt for the SPCA was completed and we hope it turns out to be a great fundraiser for them.

The Program for the evening was demonstrated by Sheri and it was the Disappearing Nine Patch in black and white, with a blue accent.  The guild is providing the blue and members provide the black and white fabrics.

On Saturday August 16th we will be having a workshop and I'll be teaching the Lug Nuts pattern. There is a $10 fee for this class.  You can bring your own fabrics to make your own or come and help make the guild's quilt, all members welcomed!

Highway 10 Designs also has a new paper pattern out called Quarter Sections that is fat quarter friendly. You might even spot a few more of these quilts in our Show and Tell pictures!  :)

We had a lot of Show and Tell this month so if you missed the meeting enjoy the following pictures!

What a productive and talented group of ladies we have!
Happy Quilting
