August 2009 Meeting

We had 25 members and 2 quests turn out for our meeting on Wednesday evening.

Robin demonstrated the Split leaves with assistance from Marg Lyle.

We are ready to start on the Comfort and Remembrance blocks, so if any of the members have any of the kits out, please complete them and return to the next meeting.
We have patterns available for the maple leafs for the quilts of Valour and the presidents blocks. As seen in the photo below.
If members choose they can bring a bright fat quarter to the next afternoon in September and work in groups to complete the president's block.

For the September 15th guild day, there will be basting in the AM and practicing machine quilting in the afternoon. Members are to bring their own machines and flannel quilt sandwiches to use to practice machine quilting in making small quilts for the SPCA. The cat size is 20 x 20 and the dog size is 36 x 38.

The bird house quilt will be our raffle quilt for the spring quilt show, and one of the Bargello quilts will be used as a raffle quilt for the November Craft show.
We will be donating a quilt to the Teen challenge program in Denare Beach.

A comfort quilt day will be held on September 29 if the church is available, and a tentative date for the Quilt retreat is either November 14th or 21st.

These are some of the quilt tops we were working on during the day, at out meeting. We had a nice turn out of members and we really got a lot done.

Here are the blue popcicles put together in a wonky format.

The blue and pink popcicles, just need borders

The turtle blocks have gone together into two nice tops, they also just need borders

The two pointless wonder quilt tops are all completed. Just have to be basted for quilting.

Now what you all love to see, here is some of the show and tell from the meeting.
This is Lorie's mini computor bag and Kathy's beautiful table runner
Eileen's summery beach bag

and her lovely pink baby quilt

Blanche's happy penquin quilt.

See you next month. Until then
Happy Quilting!
