January Meeting Highlights

While the snow fell and wind blew yesterday afternoon, members of the guild were warm and cozy sewing on comfort quilts. The turn out was smaller than normal, but we made up for it in enthusiasm. We put borders on two quilts and basted a couple more. Now, we are looking for some machine quilters. If you are looking for quilts to practice your quilting skills, we would be very happy to past one over for quilting. You are doing a service for the community and practicing your skills.

The quilt show is coming up on April 18 and 19 this year. Get those UFO's out of the cupboard and finish some things for the show. We are also looking for volunteers for various jobs at the show. Also our unfinished square for the show this year is a star. Please make sure it is at least 12 1/2 inches square. It is nice to have 18 to 24 squares to make a nice big quilt. We are looking for lots of participation for this, since making a different kind of star blocks isn't a difficult theme, and we can never have too many stars.

We still have raffle tickets left for sale, so if you have sold all your tickets or haven't sold your required two books, please pick them up from our President, or at Faktor's.

The meals on wheels place mats were a great hit! The seniors were very pleased to have this treat and many sent Thank You notes to the guild this month. We would like to continue with this service. Make a place mat or two out of some of your orphan blocks and bring them to any of the meetings. If you have no orphan blocks, we will help you out, as we have a few on hand.

The weather and the Bomber game kept the turn out a lot smaller for the evening meeting.

The Challenge quilts came back and the winners were:

First place: Kathy S
Second place: Kathy D
Third place: Lorie S
Honourable Mention: Annette K (held for display by Marg F)

Congratulations ladies!
The first month of the Round Robin tins started last night. Below are all the participants holding up their own center square.
Here are two close up photos of the center squares. They are all so different.

Now this month we have to add a pieced border. I wonder what everyone will be doing? We will have to wait till next month to find out.

Until then
Happy Quilting!
