Notes From The April 17th Meeting

What a beautiful spring day to have our quilt meeting. We were even able to prop open the church door and enjoy the fresh air. Many of our traveling snow birds are returning home, we were happy to welcome them back with open arms.
Our day group pieced together two quilt tops. One was a log cabin, bear paw, with a saw tooth border, while the other top was a nine patch set on point. We were very pleased with both of these tops. The evening program taught use how to stretch quilts for basting. The ladies did a very nice job of showing us the basting or pinning on a wooden frame method, and the pinning on a table top, or floor method. Next month we will baste both of these in preparation for quilting.
We were reminded once again that the transportation block competition for June is just around the corner. So when you are out for your spring walks, look around for some inspiration.
Evelyn showed us a large selection of ideas for the goodies bags at the CQA in June 2008. We will have to decide what we would like to make very shortly.
Below you will see one of our active members receiving a comfort quilt. This is to wrap her in love and good wishes as she travels to Winnipeg for surgery and a treatment program of chemo or radiation.
We also presented this little star quilt to the church's "Time and Talent" program.
We received a nice assortment of square in square blocks for one of our next comfort quilt projects. We received 32 blocks and are hoping we will receive many more at our next meeting in May. The patterns are available at Faktors.
When we left the meeting last night we could hear the Geese flying overhead. What a great spring sound.
See you all in May!
Happy Spring and Happy Quilting!
