We had sixteen members coming and going throughout the day. The main focus was on preparing backings and batting for completed comfort quilt tops. At end of day, five quilt sandwiches were pin basted and several were machine quilted by members. Judy was busy bringing the comfort quilt folder up to date as next month we will be donating. Judy will be contacting the various organizations to see if they are still in need of quilts, if so, they will be invited to come to our meeting or our work day in November to receive their quilts.
Beverley and Patty are cutting batting for a quilt that will be pin basted.
Rae is matching the stripes on some binding for one of the quilts.

Every second year in October, we have a new executive taking over. This was the second year, so after the old business, the new executive took the chair. Thank you Beverley and Donna for guiding us through the last two years.
Welcome Cindy and Zoey who will be our Co-presidents for the next two years!
Unfortunately I did not make a list of the complete new executive so will do that in next month’s blog.
Northern Growing Abilities will be holding the Festival of Trees this year and requested an item for their penny parade. A motion was made to donate this child’s quilt toward their cause.
The Chandelier quilt had the flange binding applied today and is now ready to be raffled at the Women’s Resource Centre Christmas craft sale at the Flin Flon Community hall on November 14.
The Cranberry Portage Christmas sale is being held on November 21st. Audrey will be in charge of the guild table at this sale.
Lorna is looking for Christmas or winter quilts from our members to be hung in the church hall for the next two months. If you have one that you wish to display, contact Lorna.
We were given some information regarding quilts for the victims of the Wainwright fire that took the lives of four soldiers and injured 39. If anyone wishes to stitch a quilt, the sizes would be 55 x 76, or 65 x 80. We will have further information next month.
Show and Tell:
Myrna likes making bags and this is one of her latest ones. It’s a nice size to carry necessities but not so large that it becomes heavy.
Myrna took some classes in Winnipeg which gave her more information on using her sewing machine (a Bernina) to do quilting. The quilting you see on this quilt are some of the designs she learned to do.
Here is a closer look at the quilting she was able to do.
Myrna was working on this quilt (her President’s quilt) at our fall retreat. She did the quilting on her machine, using the skills she learned in the Winnipeg classes. With an embroidery machine your work has to be hooped. In order to complete the quilt she had to hoop the quilt in fifty sections. The final result is stunning!
A close up of the quilting.
Lynn used a fat quarter bundle plus some fabrics from her stash to stitch this baby quilt.
Heather was working on this Halloween quilt at our retreat. The pattern is “The Witch’s House” and the panto she used is “Squished Spiderweb”.
She also sewed a second one for her sister! These girls love Halloween!
Sandra stitched this quilt for her niece. The fabric she used came from her stash and was chosen by her niece. The pattern is “Perfect Ten”. This is a “cuddle under to read quilt”.
Cindy chose the Meadowlands block to showcase the Kaffe Fassette fabric she had. She had Valerie Wasyciw longarm it. It turned out beautifully!
Quilter’s Corner:
Tonight Audrey shared her scrap management system with us. Scraps build up quicker than we realize and can become overwhelming if not dealt with in a timely manner.
She shared this sheet with us so we could see how she organizes her scraps. This system looks like it would work well. Considering my scraps are in a large tub, I think I have to get organized so I know what I have! Thank you Audrey!
Happy quilting,
