February 2008 Meeting News

About 8 or 10 enthusiastic quilters braved the cold February weather to quilt at the church at 9AM. We had our usual show and tell and then got straight to work.

We pieced the quilt of Comfort and Remembrance, basted the Dreaming of Bears and Geese quilt, and started on the paper pieced stars.

We are still looking for workers for the quilt show, so don't be shy, sign up for a job at the April meeting.

Also a reminder to turn in your raffle tickets, bring them to the retreat on Saturday, take them to Faktor's, or bring them to the March meeting.

How is everyones star block coming along...?

We had all kinds of great show and tell at the meeting. Too bad we couldn't show more of the members quilts on the blog. I hope lots of this lovely work will be appearing in the quilt show. The quilt entry sheets are available at Faktor's.

Our comfort quilt block for the next two months is a paper pieced pine tree. It should make a great boys quilt. Patterns are at Faktor's.

We are having terrific success with our Round Robin. It is really great to see those tins coming back to the meeting. Everyone brings in their tins, but no one talks about anything, until we are called to show them. Then it is like a little surprise every time someone stands up with their months round. You can see below how hard everyone worked and how great they look. Eileen in Mexico, can you find yours? Rae and Ray in B.C. ,bet you wish you had signed up...

Here is Lorie showing the next step in the Round Robin. Looks nice and simple or

you could make it fancy and complex, like Kathy's demo..

Marg showed us how to chenille. Then we all took home a small baby block to chenille and bring back. We will be able to make about three baby quilts when they all come back next month.

There is still some room left for members who want to come to the Victoria Inn quilting retreat on the weekend. Sign up at Faktor's, bring only 1/2 dozen cookies or a small square, your coffee mug, and of course your projects for the weekend. There is no charge for the weekend.

Until the weekend, keep warm and

Happy Quilting

The retreat on the weekend was a lot of fun and i was able to put together a quilt top using a jelly roll and a charm square pack. Lori and Sandra came up with some challenging ideas for the borders and binding on my quilt, now i just have to execute them......the ideas that is not Lori and Sandra ;)

Yes the retreat was so good. It is nice to get together and share ideas. I always manage to learn something and it is always good to have help deciding on color placement in your quilt. I ended up changing the inner border on my quilt and managed to finish it last night so am now ready to decide if I am going to attempt quilting it myself or get our resident pro to do it! I keep thinking I have to try at some point but I am so afraid of ruining it
