January 2014 Meeting Highlights

There were 20 members and 2 guests at our January meeting.  The UFO day in January was attended by 14 members and the next UFO day will be on February 15th.   In March we are going to have a retreat on the 7th and 8th as well as another UFO day on March 22nd.

There are been an executive change to announce.   Sheri will be taking over the Vice Presidents position from Alex and Alex will now be in charge of Membership.

During the day members were able to put  get the binding on the Black and White Bento Box quilt as well as piece a Mahjongg quilt top.

The new comfort block is a Churn Dash block and was taught by Alex Beasse.

Show and Tell

Hope your have been inspired by the wonderful Show and Tell this month!

Churn Dash Block - Instruction Revision

There is small fix you need to do for you Churn Dash blocks.  As I was making mine yesterday I realized the HST blocks finish at 4 1/4", not 4 1/2".  So here is the simple fix we came up with.

Here is how your pieces will looks following the instructions.  The center square and double rectangles are 4 1/2" square and the HST squares are 4 1/4".

All you need to do is trim the center square and the four double rectangle blocks to 4 1/4".   Then you can assemble the quilt block with no problems. 

When trimming the double rectangle block take 1/8" off each side so the center seam stays in the center.

 Then trim 1/4" off the end.

 Your pieces will now all be 4 1/4" square and sew together nicely.

The finally block will measure 11 3/4" square.

December 2013 Christmas Party

We had a nice turn out for our Christmas Party with 35 members and 17 guests.

Old Business

Brenda from Meals on Wheels was presented with 57 placemats. 

13 ladies attended the December UFO day.

The next UFO days will tentatively be on Jan. 11, 2014 and Feb. 15, 2014.

The possibility of holding a March retreat will be discussed.

Several quilts were delivered to local organizations, thank-you to Val W for delivering them.

Thank-you to Nadine and Robin and Rae B. for completing quilts in their personal challenges for the Community Living Disability Program and Freedom Outreach.

 The quilt for the Ride for a Cure group has been delivered and ticket sales are going well.

New Business

An executive supper meeting is set for 5:30 on January 21^st, 2014.

Highway 10 Designs has their new pattern “Not You Mother’s Rail Fence” available.

Program

Many personal projects were shared in Show and Tell. 

Robin M was the draw winner for Show and Tell participation from June to December.

Alex B led the Silent Auction.

Fabric draws of fat quarter bundles were won by Sandra S, Robin M, Kathy S and Joan L.

The Christmas quilt was won by Evelyn B.

Coffee money and the leftover treats were donated to the Lords Bounty Food Bank.

Donna H led everyone in an entertaining fat quarter exchange story.
