April 2015 Meeting Highlights

We had a wonderful turn out for our April Meeting now that a lot of our snowbirds are home!  We had 33 members and 2 guests join us for the evening meeting.

The Four Patch blocks are coming in and look great.  You still have another month to sew your blocks if you didn't have time last month.

Sheri introduced our new Black and White Challenge and members picked a marker to add an accent colour to their project.  Kits are $10 and included three fat quarters of black and white prints.  You can add more B+W prints, solid black, solid white to your projects.  No restriction on project sizes, you just have to quilt it yourself!  If you were not at the meeting and would like to participate Sheri will have more kits available at the May meeting.  The projects are due next April and will be displayed at our 2016 quilt show.

We seemed to have overloaded our library cupboard as it couldn't take the weight of the books anymore so we have commissioned the building of a new wood library cupboard. It should be ready to fill at our May meeting!

Highway 10 Designs are getting ready for a Fall retreat at Fabriculous in Swan River on Sept 18, 19, 20.  There are still a few spots left but they are going fast.  Contact Kathy if you are interested in joining the fun!

Our next UFO days will be May 23rd and June 27th so mark those on your calender.

March 2015 Meeting Highlights

There were 25 members at our evening meeting and about 10 members for the day time workshop.  We worked on our Fancy Fox quilt and have all the blocks ready to put together for our next meeting.

The Swan River Retreat in April has been cancelled due to low participation but has been rescheduled for Sept 18, 19, 20!!

The Guild's retreat on March 13th and 14th was a big success and 16 members in attendances.  The participants had a wonderful time and the potluck supper was delicious as always.

The new Comfort block for March and April is a simple 4 patch and was demonstrated by Audrey,  You need two 5" white squares and two 5" medium to dark squares.  Bring two and one goes to the guild, the other will go into a draw so if you're going to make more than two bring an even number.

February 2015 Meeting Highlights

We had a very small group out during the day with so many of our snowbirds away but the evening meeting had a nice turn out with 22 members and 2 guests.

Our Round Robin Challenge is now over and all the quilt tops were on display.  Everyone is holding the quilt they did the last round on, the instructions were 'Dealers Choice".  Wonderful work everyone!!

We had a request from Katie for a quilt donations to be used for a raffle for the Relay for Life event to raise money for cancer research.   The members decided the Star Fling quilt would be perfect as it is so bright and cheery!  I'm sure it will be a successful fundraiser!

Reminders
Our Spring Retreat will be this weekend, Friday March 13 and Saturday March 14 so hope many of you can make it.  Potluck supper on Friday night at 6pm and all members are welcome to come to the supper!

Next months meeting program will be a Quilter's Swish!  What is that you ask?  Well it is a great way to clean out good but unwanted quilting notions, patterns, fabrics and make a trade for someone elses items.  No money is involved, just a straight trade system.   If you bring one item you get to take one item. If you bring 10 items you will get the chance to pick 10 items and we will use a draw method to make that fair.

Another great Show and Tell!

Snowbirds

Well it looks like some of our guild members are enjoying a nice warm winter and this group in Arizona had a wonderful reunion!   Looks so lovely and warm.   I think they look a little too happy!

And then there is our group of ladies out on Vancouver Island enjoying a winter of golf and geocaching!    Look at that green grass!   Well I think all the members that stayed up north all winter are a bit jealous as it is -25'c this morning with a -33'c windchill.
