February 2013 Meting Highlights

Twenty One ladies turned out for the meeting in February, and not even one guest.
I think most of our quilters are enjoying warmer climates.  I trust you will all come back with new patterns and ideas for those of us left behind.

The library got three new magazines:

March/April 2013 Fons & Porter’s Love of Quilting
March/April 2013 Quiltmaker
Spring 2013 Keepsake Quilting

Yvonne H won the membership draw.

The February UFO had 13 people attending.

A retreat for March 1st and 2nd has been booked.  Friday the 1st will be from 9 to 9 with a potluck at 6pm.  All are welcome to supper even if you are not quilting.  Saturday the 2nd will be from 9 to 4pm.

A motion was made  to donate $100 to the church kitchen for the use of the kitchen.

Jane Zielke from Jane’s Crafts in The Pas has a long arm machine for sale.  Call Audrey for contact information.

Glenna D has fabric samples from a shop in the Gulf Islands, who is willing to put orders together to ship to local quilters.  You can view the samples at the March retreat.

Kathy from Tamarack Shack had sample packets of Quilter’s Dream Batting that show the different types of batting available for order.

Kathy demonstrated month two of the Mystery Quilt project.  More half square triangles!

Audrey demonstrated the new Comfort Block called the Exploding Pineapple.  The block will be a light and a dark color with the light in the center.

Nadine M has given herself a challenge to make Comfort Quilts to donate to all the adults in the Community Living Disability Program.
Here are the first three.

January 2013 Meeting Highlights

It was a very cold day but 27 members turned out to our meeting in the evening and
we had a very busy day putting together quilt tops.

We tried out a new design board and have decided that the club needs one of their own.

 During the evening meeting:

A thank-you card was received from Families First for the quilts donated to their organization.

The October, 2011 American Patchwork & Quilting and the pattern Coconuts were donated to the library.

The cost for those participating in UFO days will be $10.

Meals on Wheels received 51 placemats, Cree Nations Child and Family Agency received 5 quilts, Flin Flon Child and Family Services 5 quilts and Child and Family services 6 quilts at our Christmas party.

From a discussion it was decided to donate a quilt to a local resident living on her own.

There were 77 quilts in total donated to our community and surrounding areas in 2012.

Alex B has agreed to stand as our guild vice-president.

Dates for an upcoming guild retreat are being explored. Nadine  made a motion to hold a retreat on March 1st and 2nd, 2013 if space is available. The majority is in favor.

Robin M will book the February UFO.

Quilting With Friends will hold a retreat at Baker’s Narrows Lodge on May 3,4,5, 2013.  They would like 24 participants to take part.  Contact Audrey N for contact information.

Kathy S demonstrated the first step in the cutting and sewing of the Double Trouble Mystery Quilt.

 Show and Tell

We had a small show and tell for January.  Enjoy!

Cranberry Craft Sale quilt tickets sold well, and the winner was our member Evelyn B.

There is still a call out to have someone let their name stand for vice-president of the guild.

The church has been booked for a UFO on January 19, 2013 from 9 to 5.  All are welcome and those attending will split the cost of rent.

The “Last Baby of the Year” quilt is ready to go.
