Guild Day, Tuesday, February 17, 2026

Today’s guild day had a bit of a different feel to it than usual. Last guild day we found that we were falling behind on completing quilts. There were pinned sandwiches and flimsies that needed to be done, bindings needed to be attached and hand stitching done, so a number of us brought our machines in order to augment those we have here so that more completions could be done. We had about seventeen members present throughout the day and everyone was busily working on completions.

Sandra was working on a quilt for a young girl. She was using the Juki machine to do the free motion quilting.

Judy is quilting a sandwich that had been pinned in earlier guild days.

Our hand stitchers are working on a binding for this quilt.

Audrey is cutting pieces to complete a quilt top.

Sandra is stitching the binding onto the quilt that Judy had quilted earlier.

June is doing the quilting on another pinned quilt sandwich.

Comfort Quilts:

The completed quilt on which Judy and Sandra had been working.

                                                         Another quilt completed today.

Some dinosaur loving child will be very happy with this quilt. I believe it was pieced by Eileen.

Another child sized quilt. Sorry, I don’t know who to credit for this one.

Rae did the piecing and quilting for this one.

                                                          I believe another by Rae.

                                                             Pieced and quilted by Zoey.

The blocks for this quilt were stitched by the members after Audrey demonstrated the pattern. The quilt was completed today.

Twenty-four of these embroidered horse blocks were donated to the guild. We were then challenged to pick a block and put a border of a specified size on it. Once all the blocks were in they were assembled into two quilts which Heather long armed for us.

Show and Tell:

Sandra was given some fabrics by Rae for her birthday so she stitched this lovely quilt from them. All the oranges and yellows make a very happy quilt!

Heather completed her Starry Hearts quilt. She used the City of Fountains panto to quilt it. Beautiful work, Heather!

Judy stitched this ragtime quilt for her grandson. This is a very attractive pattern for a rag quilt.

Cindy used a panel for the centre part of this baby quilt but the panel wasn’t straight so she added borders in matching colours. She quilted it herself and when making the binding she used a three inch strip rather than the traditional two and one half inch strip. She found it to be much easier to apply and get good mitred corners. Beautiful, Cindy!

Sandra started this quilt a number of years ago. She found the nine centre blocks at Value Village in Winnipeg. She then added some yardage from Fabricland plus some from her stash. Some of the blocks were in need of repair or redoing but they worked out well. This quilt will be a gift for her sister who Sandra says is an astounding thrift store shopper.

For the backing, Sandra used leftover pieces from the front and joined them in this interesting pattern. Sandra rarely uses a pattern when sewing her quilts. After she reworked the nine blocks, she went on to design the borders and all the other elements used to complete this quilt, and of course did the free motion quilting and added a flange binding. Fantastic job, Sandra!

This evening we did not demonstrate a comfort block as we hope to get some more quilts completed before we start some more. We will be using our next guild day to continue work on unfinished projects, so in essence it will be a big UFO day!

We received many wildfire relief quilts but I will put those in a separate post so this one doesn’t go on indefinitely!

Our membership draw winner was Susan.

Happy quilting,
Gladys
