April 2017 Meeting Highlights

We had 23 members present at our evening meeting and it looks like all of our Sister Choice blocks are returned. These will make a beautiful quilt or two!

We had a few members bring their Necessary Clutch Wallets to the meeting.  Everyone was very happy with how they turned out.

A motion was made to make "Getting to Know Hue' quilt our next quilt show raffle quilt. The executive are working on getting the pattern and fabrics.
Here is a picture of the quilts pattern cover.

The next Highway 10 Designs retreat will be held on Oct 20-22, 2017.  Those that have previously attended will get first pick at a spot and then if there are any spots available after that they will be opened to the public.

*Reminder *  We will be having a baby shower for Sheri and her beautiful baby daughter Darby on May 16th at the church from 2 to 4pm.

The program for the evening was Machine Applique and the new Comfort Block is the Orange Peel block. The guild gave out the fusible web and background fabrics, you just supply the bright fabric for the orange peel design.

Rae shared her progress on the Canada 150th quilt project that is all fusible applique.

The next UFO day is May 6th.  All the dates for the rest of the year for the meetings, UFO days and next retreat are on the blogs sidebar for easy reference.

Necessary Clutch Wallet Class with Wendy!

This weekend at our guild Spring Retreat we had a special guest Wendy van der Walt from Fabriculous, who set up a shop and taught the Necessary Clutch Wallet to our group.  It was a fun class and we had 17 members participate!  Most of the wallets were finished in the class time and I hope that everyone that made one will bring them to Aprils meeting so we can get a group picture of all the wallets with their makers!

I loved seeing our members work together to help each other out!

Here is Wendy helping us get the clasp installed.  We had a great assembly line going!

Thanks you Wendy for coming up to our Retreat and showing us that we can make something that looks so complicated!  You're an excellent teacher!

March 2017 Meeting Highlights

We are starting to get the Paper Pieced blocks back and they are looking great!

We had a very special guest at our March meeting.  A big congratulations goes to Sheri and Sean on the arrival of their daughter Darby!  Those of us that were there in the afternoon got to hold this precious bundle, she is such a sweet baby!  We are all looking forward to having her visit our sewing days and watching her grow!

Our Guild Retreat will be on Friday, April 7th and Saturday, April 8th.   We will have our usually Pot Luck supper on Friday at 6pm.  If you were not at our March meeting to sign up for an item please feel free to bring any dish.

Wendy from Fabriculous will be at our retreat and setting up a small shop. If you need anything from her shop please call Wendy to see if she can bring what you need.  The shop phone number is 204-734-5662.   She will also be teaching the Necessary Clutch Wallet Class on Saturday.  The guild is covering the cost of teaching and you just need to buy your own supplies, pattern and fabric. If you are interested in taking her class please let Kathy know ASAP as Wendy needs to know how many kits and patterns to bring.  You will be able to shop for fabric for the wallet on Friday and the class starts at 9:30 am on Saturday so please be there to set up at 9am.

Wendy will also be doing a fun Nifty Notions demonstration for us Friday night.

We are also planning on trying a new game so if you want to participate please bring three 2 1/2" x WOF (wide of fabric) fabric strips.  Lets make them colourful!  The winner of the game wins all the strips of fabric, winner takes all!

Audrey had new quilt labels made for our comfort quilts and they turned out very nice.  They include our logo, location and washing instructions.

The evening Program was the Dresden Plate and Audrey was showing us how to use the EZ Dresden ruler that is in the guild library.

Now to our Show and Tell.

Happy Stitching Everyone!
