November 2014 Meeting Highlights

The daytime workers were very busy putting together a few quilt tops that have been sitting in our cupboard.  Do you remember making the Churn Dash blocks and the Exploding Pineapple blocks?  They are now quilt tops!

We also finished piecing the Lug Nuts quilt from the August Workshop and this will be our next Quilt Show raffle quilt.  Talk about being ahead of the game!

Here is our finished quilt for the Cranberry Portage Craft sale raffle.   Thanks to all that helped make the quilt and who sold tickets.

At our evening meeting we had 28 members present and we were able to present the Elks with 12 baby quilts for their Christmas hampers.   We also had quilts ready to be sent to Safe Haven, Flin Flon Family Services, Creigton Child and Family, Kids First North, Flin Flon Families First and Cree Nation Child and Family.

Here is this months Round Robin results, looking good ladies!
Next months instructions - 'put on point and then either applique or use a special ruler that you own."

Andy Burbidge from Flin Flon Insurance came to talk to us about insuring our quilts as well as what the guild would need to do if we wanted to insure our supplies at the church. Lots to think about and I hope everyone ran home to take pictures of all there belonging like he suggested!

Wendy from Fabriculous in Swan River is interested in coming up here next year to teach a workshop on a great tote bag.  When we have more info we will let you know!

October 2014 Meeting Highlights

We had a small group working on guild projects during the day and 32 members and 2 guests for our evening meeting.

During the day we were busy finishing the binding on the Elk's baby quilts and they will be picked up by the Elks at our November meeting.

We also finished piecing our second Christmas raffle quilt that will be drawn for at the Cranberry Portage craft sale.   It is now quilted and just needs the binding.

We had a great display of the button hole circle and cat applique blocks made by members.

The first round of the guilds Round Robin was completed and the next months instruction is to add a border.

Our Program for the evening was making Strip blocks using Bounce Dryer Sheets, demonstrated by Marg Faktor.

The guild is going to make a quilt using this technique and asking member to make a block in shades of  BLUE to bring back to the November or December meeting.  The blocks should be trimmed to 6 1/2" x 9".

We had a nice turnout for our October Fall retreat at the church.  The Pot Luck supper was delicious and members were busy working on a lot of wonderful quilting projects!

The Swan River retreat as also a success and plans for another on in April 2015 is in the works!

Now to Show and Tell

Our Christmas Raffle quilt is very well at the Creighton Craft Sale, thank you to everyone involved in its making and that sold tickets!

Happy quilting!
Kathy
