September 2012 Meeting Highlights

We had a very full afternoon of machine quilting and sorting comfort quilts.
24 members and one guest turned out for the meeting on a rainy fall evening.
Here is a photo of some of the old comfort blocks, the new comfort block for October and November is a paper pieced heart.

Here are some photos  of the comfort quilts the guild gave away this month.
These three quilts went to First North Creighton

And these three went to The Women's Resource Centre

This lovely ABC Quilt went to the Breast feeding group for October's breast feeding week.

The baby quilts below went to Flin Flon Families First.

This black, white and red went to the Cranberry Craft sale for our raffle.

These four below went to Flin Flon Child and Family Services

The three touch quilts went to Snow lake to the Personal Care Home

and this is Nadine with three more quilts for Rae's Challenge.

Audrey thanked everyone for taking part in the Judy Niemeyer workshop and gave a special thank-you to Kathy S for organizing the event.
Here is a sample of some of the ladies tops.

Due to a family illness Sandra D has withdrawn as Vice President.  The guild is looking for someone to let their name stand for VP, hopefully by the October meeting.

Rae B inquired about the possibility of the guild making donations of quilts to Habitat for Humanity in Flin Flon.  The Guild pasted the motion.

The Comfort Block for September and October 2012 will be the Crazy Patch Heart.  This was demonstrated by Eileen M using some of the techniques learned at the Judy Niemeyer workshop. Evelyn B assisted.

Workshop Pictures

On Friday and Saturday the church hall turned into a classroom and fabric shop thanks to Michele and Colin from Mami's Country Quilt shop in Duck Lake.  13 guild members took part in a Judy Neimeyer class taught by Michele and everyone had a great time.   Michele was an excellent teacher and we all learnt some great new quilting tips and techniques!!

Here are pictures of everyone working on there projects.

Lynn was the first one done her blocks and here they are on the design board.

Sheri was the second one done her blocks and here are hers.

I was the third one done my blocks and I was able to get the center of my quilt together before packing up.

Thanks to Barb Harrower and Marg Lyle for the pictures!

Michele's Trunk Show

Michele gave us a fabulous trunk show on Saturday morning to show us all her Judy Neimeyer quilt tops.  This first one is Judy's latest pattern that isn't even in stores yet and it is called Mariners Compass.  Michele and Colin have gone to Judy's retreats in Montana three times now.

Judy Niemeyer Workshop

Reminder that Michele from Mami's Country Quilts in Duck Lake is coming to teach the Judy Neimeyer workshop this Friday and Saturday, starting at 9am on Friday.   There will also be an opportunity for all the guild members to shop as they are bringing all their batiks and a lot of wide backing to sell.  They will be arriving Thursday afternoon and parking in the United Chruch parking lot.  Michele said that all quilters are welcome to come shop Thursday afternoon and evening and Friday evening.
