October 2009 Meeting Highlights.

There were 34 members present on Tuesday evening.
The craft sale is at the Creighton Community Hall on November 7th. We will be raffling the Bargello quilt. We are also selling guild bookmarks, and star ornaments. Members can also sell their personal quilted items, but please be sure to mark your price on those items.

There will be a quilt retreat on November 21 and 22 at the Victoria Inn. Hours are Saturday from 9 AM to ???and on Sunday from 9AM to 4PM. Lunch and supper will be eaten at the hotel. Participants are to bring a snack item, a wrapped $5 notion, thread or a fat quarter, a quilting hint, info about their favorite blog, website, or online shop, and their own projects to work on.
There are more kits available for the October/November comfort block, Gentlemen’s Fancy with Prairie Points .

A reminder was given to be sure to use a scant ¼ “ seam when making maple leaf blocks for the Quilt of Valour. Kits are available.

Next Guild day – November 17 - there will be basting in the morning and practicing machine quilting in the afternoon. Members can bring their machines and practise on blankets for the SPCA, their Celtic Knot project, or guild quilts.

The December Christmas party was discussed. Yellow is the colour for the fat quarter exchange. We still need a volunteer to write the story. A draw will be made for the completed embellishment kits. Place mats will be received for Meals on Wheels. The appliqué flower quilt will be put into the silent auction. Donations for the auction can be brought next month for preview. Suggestions were needed as to where the coffee donation money should go.

For the April Quilt Show the theme for the 12 1/2” unfinished block is winter wear. Please use light weight fusible web and no embellishments. A challenge will be held with a baby quilt theme. More information will follow.

Sandra and Rae demonstrated the next block for our mystery wall hanging.

For your information here are an autumn and Christmas version of the next block.
The program for the evening was rulers. Members brought out their different rulers and discussed how to use them, or learned how to use them.
