September 2009 Meeting Highlights

Thirty members and one guest came out to the meeting on a very warm September 16th.

The SPCA sent a Thank You note for the cat and dog quilts. We had to cancel our afternoon quilting since the church was having a funeral. However we will continue to practice our machine quilting on more cat and dog quilts on the afternoon of the November meeting.

The Saskatoon Quilters's Guild Quilt Show is on October 23/24. The Northern Country Crafters Christmas sale is on November 7.in Creighton. We will be taking part in this sale. Two tables will be booked, and anyone with quilted items for sale will be able to sell them at the table.

Lorie is demonstrating our next comfort block. This features Prairie points, which was the program for the evening. Feel free to sign for and pick up a kit next meeting.
There will be a comfort day at the church on September 29th from 9 -4. We will be working on our quilts of Comfort and Remembrance and our quilts of Valour on that day. You can see some of the blocks on our design wall. Ray B was kind enough to cut out a large number of blocks to make more maple leaf squares for the Quilts of Valour. If you have any squares completed please send or bring them to the comfort day.

A quilting retreat will be held at the Victoria Inn on November 21.
The mystery quilt's first month's instructions were demonstrated by Sandra and Rae. It will be a 6 - 7 month project resulting in a wall hanging (33 x 46 1/2) It can be seasonal and/or scrappy.

Here is a photo of the first block. Tree and star placement can be creative.

For the October afternoon workshop Kathy will be teaching the Celtic Knot. A hand out of the materials needed was provided. Members are asked to have their designs drawn on the background fabric before the workshop. Kathy will be placing an order through A Great notion for the Steam A Seam 2 and the clover bias maker. Please let her know by the weekend. She also has some fat quarter batiks available for purchase.
The October evening program will be unique rulers and a refresher on paper piecing. Members are asked to bring any unique rulers they may have and the instructions on their use.
The Christmas party was discussed. Yellow is the colour for the fat quarter exchange. A volunteer is needed to write the story. The Christmas project is an embellishment project. Kits were handed out to use. Here is one way to use the kit.

Change of Plans

Dear Members,

Unfortunately the United Church is having a funeral on Tuesday afternoon.
We will have to cancel machine quilting in the afternoon, but we will still be able to work quietly on other projects.
Please pass this information on to the other members
