June Meeting

We had 42 members and 2 guests out for our June Meeting. The weather had taken a drastic turn from the snowfall last month and we were dealing with hot and humid conditions....SUMMER is finally here! But that didn't stop us from being very productive.

During the day we had about 20 guild members who worked in finishing up various projects. The missing flower block for our hand applique quilt was turned in and we were able to finish that top. The borders on the Tree quilt were added and that top was completed.
Eileen and Lorna continued to work on the library reorganization and catalogued all the patterns.

We also started and completed two Bargello quilt tops that were made from our February and March comfort blocks. Look how different they are with green sashing and off white sashing.


During the evening meeting 24 birdhouse blocks were returned and the comment " i don't know which one to choose.....I like them all" was heard a lot that night. But after the votes were counted the favorite one was Marg Faktor's block which had a robin in a nest (first one on the top row). Congratulations Marg!

The program for the evening was the demostration by Marg Faktor (shown below). She showed us how to make the Pointless Wonder and the Magic Tile blocks. In the afternoon at the July 14 meeting we will be making these two blocks into quilt tops. The best way to learn these blocks is to actually make them so if you can please come and help.

Here is the CWL's Raffle Quilt that will be drawn for in the fall. It was quilted by Kathy at the Tamarack Shack. See Rae if your interested in getting a ticket.

The comfort block for June and July is the paper pieced Popsicle block.

The Maple Leaf patterns that we will be using for the Quilt of Valour project is now available at the meetings. We ask that you use leaf colors, any season, and that the background be a light color. They can be turned in at anytime and you can make as many as you like.

It was announced that the new Manitobe Representive for the CQA is guild member Kathy Schwartz. She had a draw for a CQA Goodie bag and it was won by Lori Suss. (Honest ... it wasn't fixed, there were witnesses!)

Robin had mentioned that when she calls for cookies that she is getting a lot of wrong numbers. So we are asking members to please look on the check-in sheet to see that your information is current and if not see Yvonne or Raye with your correct contact information.

Show and Tell

Here is Robins Thimbleberry quilt... "Hey Robin can you lift it higher!!" It was quilted by Kathy and she feels she should have filled the window sill with more pies to make it more realistic!

Here is Melba's newest Stack and Whack and it was quilted by Kathy.

Here is Alene with her Mystery quilt. Her focus fabric is sunflowers and the bright orange fabaric is wonderful in it. Quilted by Kathy with free-hand sunflowers and leaves.

Nadines first bed size quilt and she did a fantastic job with the piecing!!! Quilted by Kathy.

Our summer guild member Doreen made this recycled rail fence quilt that included fabric from curtains in their cabin and a her mothers dress. Longarm quilted in Canmore.

It was a fun Show and Tell with many stories shared.....including Val's $75 panties story (no sample show) from Marg's lingerie class!

And Marg don't worry we still need you to help us with our quilting/sewing projects, that will never change.

May Meeting

41 members and one guest braved the heavy snowfall warnings for our evening meeting on May 19.

We had one new member join our group. Here is new member Nadine holding up her first quilt.

Our Bird house blocks are due for the June meeting. A vote for the favourite block will be taken at that time, so you still have time this month to complete your block.

Our demo for the evening was the double wedding ring as demonstrated by Marg F.

Blanche showed us her beautiful "Beyond Baltimore" quilt. Pieced by Blanche and quilted by Kathy S.

Our next comfort block is a paper pieced popsicle block. If you didn't pick up your background fabric last month, you still have an opportunity in June.

You can see that we have almost completed the appliqued flower quilt. However we are missing one block. If any of our members has one of the blocks completed or not completed could you please bring it to the next meeting. We don't have enought background fabric to make another block so we are desperate for a piece of the background fabric with or without a flower appliqued onto it.

This is another reminder that the July meeting will be held on the second Tuesday. July 14th.

Come and Go Tea for Ethel Thompson

Just wanted to inform the guild members that there will be a Come and Go Tea for Ethel's 85 Birthday on Tuesday, May 5 from 2:00 to 4:00 at Ethels house at 29 Anderson. No presents but cards are fine.

April 2009 Meeting

We had quit a few enthusiastic members show up on Tuesday morning. Some of our snow birds returned home, myself included. There was a lot of show and tell that morning.
Some of us had our mystery blocks all completed, so we layed them out in various ways, to decide which combination worked with the different colours.
Then we got to work. We pieced together a country style quilt with the paper pieced tree blocks our members made a while ago.

39 members and 3 quests turned out for the evening meeting.
We have a new book in the library called Stack'n Whack Ipedia.

Our program for the evening was piecing the Tumbling block. Demonstrations were done by Marg F
Members are asked to return Comfort and Remberance blocks. A quilt will be started once enough blocks are back. As you can see we have been receiving some, but we need 18 to make a quilt.

The turtle blocks are also turning out very nicely. Please remember to bring yours to the next meeting.

The bird house blocks are due in June. A reminder not to use fusing on these blocks. Here are some of the blocks that have already been turned into the Guild. There should be some ideas there to get you started.

The 15 kid's travel bags that were received in March have been passed onto Family Services. More bags are welcome, with the pattern available from the Guild.
